Transforming Uganda into a Global Electronics Manufacturing Powerhouse

Venture Lead: Baguma Douglas K – Innovex Uganda Ltd.

Establishment of a local SMT facility, reverse engineering solar kits, and initiating large-scale electronics manufacturing to substitute imports and build OEM capacity.

Local Electronics Design and Hardware Enterprise Incubation

Silicon Wafer Value Project

Venture Lead: Ham Namakajjo

Strategic initiative to explore and develop Uganda’s capacity for silicon wafer manufacturing, leveraging local sand as raw material.

Completed market research, technical feasibility study, financial analysis, and regulatory review for setting up a silicon wafer fabrication facility in Uganda.

Commercialization of Academic Research Initiative (CARI)

Venture Lead: Emmanuel Okalany – RUFORUM

Supporting the transition of university-led innovations to market-ready products by bridging research and industry through mentorship and financing.

Supported 4 student-led projects to commercialization; initiated the establishment of Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) in partner universities.

Development of a Model Electric Public Transport System for Urban Centres

Venture Lead: Kiira Motors Corporation

The Project aims at developing a sustainable and replicable model Electric Public Transport System for Urban Centres in the region with an initial pilot in Jinja City.


The Pilot commenced in November 2024 and is currently operating a fleet of 9 Kayoola Electric Buses between Iganga and Jinja City supported by DC Fast Chargers. The project leverages a cashless ticketing system developed by KaCyber Technologies.

Electric Bus Operator Training Program

Venture Lead: Kiira Motors Corporation

A specialized Electric Bus Operator Skilling Program to up-skill bus drivers on the operation of Electric Buses and Charging Infrastructure with a target of 6,000 Operators skilled by 2028.


The program covers all aspects of electric bus operations, including driving and handling, charging, maintenance, traffic regulations, road signs and customer care, among others. So far, over 300 e-Bus Operators have completed the program that is full funded by the Mobility Bureau, STI Secretariat.

Enhancing the efficiency and accessibility of Public Transportation through the deployment of Contactless Card Payment Technology

Venture Lead: KaCyber Security Technologies Ltd

The project developed a Contactless Card Payment System leveraging digital payment platforms. The system was deployed on the Kayoola Electric Buses.
